Facebook to release "MAJOR" profile redesign at f8

Tuesday, 20 September 2011 14:28
This week Facebook has pulled out its big trick to potentially take this influential business to its next level. The company plans to roll out a major redesign of its user profiles at f8 conference. Details about the redesign are still scattered, however, 2 sources that are familiar with Facebook plans have revealed that the redesign is major, and that it will make facebook profiles' nexuses for consuming content.
This user profile redesign is a part of a bigger launch, one that will include launch of a music and media platform.

And below are the details of what we managed to gather about the user profile redesign:

  • One of the purposes of the new design is to make it more attractive to end users so that they would stay longer on their profiles.
  • At F8 conference, Facebook is also launching a media platform that will accomodate music and videos from other partner websites. this platform will display the media content a user is listening or watching on their profiles. Basically, if you are listening to Adele via Spotify on your profile, your facebook friends will be able to see and access that through your facebook profile. This has been confirmed in a recent NEW YORK report.
  • The redesign is also a part of a larger campaign to push Ecommerce aspects. Not much has been heard yet, but it is said that Facebook intends to give facebook credits more prominence. It is said that a facebook app may possibly emerge at f8
  • Facebook's rush into ecommercecould result from Project Spartan, an HTML5-based mobile platform which is emerging shortly.
The information about this launch has been kept secret as Facebook is quite tight-lipped about the campaign. however, the excitement and buzz around this big launch continues to mount and more and more pieces of it are gradually coming together. Facebook is still under lockdown, trying to finalise the remaining bugs before its big launch.
