The Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) Process
Step 1. SEO Consultation
Our initial step of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) to guide your Search Engine Marketing is to establish information about
- Your company and its core needs, its unique selling points,
- Its target markets and audience, and its online processes.
- Your website’s structure, navigation, content requirements if any
- Your website’s current status in the search engines
Step 2. Competitive Analysis
From the initial consultation, a competitive analysis will take place to understand the situation of competition in the target markets by
- Locating key competitor websites on major search engines:
- Studying competitive Google Adwords advertisements.
- Reviewing source code for top ranking competitors.
- Reviewing inbound link popularity.
- Reading blogs and relevant news.
Websites of all your competitors who have high search engine rankings will be analyzed to establish the methods they have used.
Step 3. Keyword Research
One of the crucial steps in search engine optimization is keyword research. Success of search engine optimisation largely depends on selecting the correct keywords.
Here competitive keywords relating to the site and unique to your domain are found. Keyword research is done to maximize the impact of search engine optimization. When your site ranks well, more relevant customers come to the site leading to an increase in traffic, conversions and hence income for the site.
The accurate identification and careful selection of these important keywords and key phrases can literally make or break any web site or online business.
- Use competitor source code to begin developing master keyword list.
- Implement a wide range of keyword research tools
- Use Google Adwords, and Overture to estimate budget and cost per click (CPC) on competitive keywords.
Step 4. Website Enhancements and Content Editing
An overall analysis is first done on your website, to assess what is needed to best optimize it for the search engines. Based on this analysis the proposal is adjusted to include the necessary work to be done.
- Make improvements to website based on competitor and keyword research.
- Review structure of website in terms of links and dynamics for better search engine indexing.
- Make sure website copy is benefit-driven with repeated calls to action
- Create Meta tags in tune with the prepared key word list, after identifying the pages and their target keywords.
- Optimise HTML Code which includes setting up your home page W3C Compliant, and adding headings, image alt tags and hyperlinks.
- Optimise and clean up HTML code
- Enhance the relevance of the targeted theme for the content of the website
Step 5. Search Engine Submission
- Submit site manually for inclusion in major search engines
- Ongoing submission to smaller website directories and relevant websites.
Your site is submitted to all the relevant search engines (around 150) with a focus on major search engines such as Google, AOL, MSN, AltaVista, Ask, All The Web, Yahoo! and DMOZ.org plus specialised directories.
Step 6. Link Popularity Campaign
- Build Links page with relevant, non-competitive companies.
- Send out emails requesting inbound links.
Link Popularity refers to the number of links pointing to your site, from other sites on the web. There are other terms used for Link Popularity, such as Link building, Inbound Links, Back Links, etc The Search Engines consider your site important and rank it higher if other sites link to your site. There are two types of links you can establish on the web. One type is to trade links (Link Exchange), where you give a link from the links Page on your site to the partner sites. The second method is to establish only "incoming links" also called ‘one-way links' or ‘non-reciprocal links”. With non-reciprocal links, you do not need to link back to them.
Step 7. Rank Reporting, Monitoring and Tweaking the Website Accordingly
A monthly analysis is made and the website "tweaked" if the ranking is not high enough. A report showing the sites position in each search engine for each of the agreed keywords is provided on a monthly basis.
At this point, the only thing left to do is wait for your rankings to roll in! Although we often get websites listed in the search engines within the first month it usually takes 3 months for your website to climb up in the search engines. This is because many search engines (especially Google) sit on a site for a few months to prevent new sites spamming the index.

Getting a top position is difficult and can take months to achieve as search engines have their own ranking criteria and are often slow to update. SEO is not a quick fix.
